Genes in Giant viruses shared by no life on earth

As their name suggest, giant viruses are big — as big as bacteria, and more than twice the size of typical viruses. The genome of Giant viruses are more complex than the genomes of simple microbes, and many of these genes of Giant viruses code for proteins that is found only in giant viruses.

These so called orphan genes puzzled scientists about where they come from. In three new species of Pandora viruses, a family of giant viruses, it was found out that these genes originated in the viruses themselves. The giant viruses were like factories which churned out novel genes and proteins. However, the origin and purpose of this prolific gene creation is still a mystery.

There are four known giant virus families discovered till date: Molli virus, Mega virus, Pitho virus and Pandora virus. Recently researchers have identified three new members of Pandora virus from samples collected in France, New Caledonia and Australia. And these three new members of Pandora viruses were found to contain large quantities of orphan genes and unique proteins. Also, it was found that about ninety percentages of these proteins do not share any significant similarity with proteins of other viruses, outside of their own family, or cellular microbes.

On analysing the orphan genes and by comparing them to other viral genomes. Similarities were found between the two only at specific targeted regions of DNA sequences that are non-coding. This shows that each virus was producing the new genes from its own DNA in a randomly and spontaneous way.

These findings suggest that new genes and proteins are generated in Pandora viruses on a regular basis. This concept could be a game changer in the study of Pandora viruses.

  1. My name is hoover, my 18 year old daughter, Tricia was diagnosed with herpes 3 years ago. Since then, we have moved from one hospital to another. We tried all kinds of pills, but every effort to get rid of the virus was futile. The bubbles continued to reappear after a few months. My daughter was using 200mg acyclovir pills. 2 tablets every 6 hours and 15g of fusitin cream. and H5 POT. Permanganate with water to be applied twice a day, but all still do not show results. So, I was on the internet a few months ago, to look for other ways to save my only son. Only then did I come across a comment about the herbal treatment of Dr Imoloa and decided to give it a try. I contacted him and he prepared some herbs and sent them, along with guidance on how to use them via the DHL courier service. my daughter used it as directed by dr imoloa and in less than 14 days, my daughter recovered her health.
